A Baby Boy’s First Birthday: Charlie Turns One

My sweet baby boy, Charles Phillip, has officially turned one on the 4th of July! We had a little gathering with family on Monday night to finish off the long weekend and to celebrate Charlie’s first year. I can’t believe we made it through. LOL. Everyone warned me the first child would be the biggest adjustment of my life but…I disagree. Having a second baby has been the game-changer for us. But, double the work brings double the blessings and for that I’m grateful!!! Charlie has definitely been the bright light in our family and he came during a difficult time after losing my Dad just three weeks prior to his birth. We are beyond blessed to have this sweet soul join our family. We didn’t even know what we were missing until we had him and now I can’t imagine it any other way. Charlie has the most infectious smile and laugh, and I see so many wonderful qualities in my boys that remind me of my Dad daily.

Today I thought I’d share some pictures from Charlie’s 1st Birthday Party because I love to entertain and decorate, and I like to provide anyone with helpful ideas for their own little parties if you’re looking to keep it simple. I didn’t go with a theme this time around; I just kept it bright and colourful for the children. So here it is…Charlie Turns One.

All my hanging banners are from Target or The Dollar Store.

I displayed a photo banner capturing Charlie’s growth each month because I think it’s cute to see.

I found this idea on Pinterest for Luke’s birthday three years ago and I had to repeat it for Charlie. It gives guests something to fill out and to discuss. Once everyone writes their prediction, I take a picture and add it to their baby book.

Table and chairs are from HomeSense. Perfect little seating area for the kids to eat at.

The great thing about summer birthdays is you can always BBQ to keep it easy.

Homemade cupcakes with Jelly Bean toppers. Big hit with the kiddies. Luckily kids don’t care what the treats look like because I’m not great at icing. They’re just excited to see chocolate and candy on any tablescape.

Charlie had to invite his longtime girlfriend, Camille. They are just 3 days apart in age. Giant tassel balloon ($3) is from Target but I had The Dollar Store blow it up ($6) for me.

Luke didn’t get any sweets at his first birthday. Second baby, different rules. Am I right?
