Have you heard of Kiwi Co? They’re an educational subscription box for kids. I’d heard about Kiwi Co for a few years and was waiting for the perfect age and time in our life when I thought these surprise boxes would make sense for the boys. This past Christmas we decided to scale back the toys and sign Charlie and Luke up for a 3 month subscription. And let me say, this subscription couldn’t have arrived at a better time. It has been the perfect activity to get us through this polar vortex.
We registered each boy for a 3 month service: Tadpole Crate (for Charlie 0-36 months) and the Koala Crate (for Luke 3-4 years). Cyber Monday had a promo on for 60% off the first month so it came to $59.85 USD for three months. I had delivery scheduled for January 2019 when I knew it would be freezing out and thought we might be running out of indoor activities.
Once you select the age group you want for your subscription, you then choose the plan and wait for it to arrive. The boys get SO excited to see the boxes on our doorstep. And, what I especially LOVE is that it takes all the guesswork out when it comes to shopping for materials to execute the perfect craft or science experiment for the kids. No more #Pinterestfails.
Here’s what’s included in the Tadpole Crate: a board book, an educational activity or project, an info sheet, and a magazine highlighting the theme of the crate. Charlie’s January box theme was water play, focusing on explore and discovery, so we ended up taking it to the tub with this fun activity: Tadpole Slide & Stack.
This specific crate focuses on hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, visual tracking, and colour matching. The slide suctions to an oversized Tupperware container or the side of the tub and is fun for the kids to slide the tadpoles down. The tadpoles also help teach your child the colours, stacking, and counting. The lily pad landing is perfect for collecting the tadpoles on.
This subscription box is seriously the gift that keeps on giving! Both boys have had fun playing with each other’s monthly subscriptions. I highly recommend signing up if you’re looking for a new at-home activity for your children or a creative birthday gift idea!
